  As your circumstances permit, build a good collection of "Old Light" publications. The WATCHTOWER is best hoisted on its own petard.

  For amusement, familiarize yourself with the works of H. P. Lovecraft and The Church Of The Subgenius, as well as the Flying Spaghetti Monster (may you be touched by his noodly appendage! Selah.)

  Get a deck of Tarot cards and keep them on your coffeetable. You don't need to learn how to "work" them - they're only "spiritual props." Same for a OuiJa Board.

  Yes, I take my own advice. All that and more. I'm quite bad in the eyes of the WTB&TS, you know. ...and I couldn't care less.

  1914 - What is the importance of this date?

  "we don't live for dates".

  i have heard this a lot in my lifetime when witnesses get approached with any critical thinking of the 1914 year date.. this sounds good, at face value, but it's so disconcerting to hear them minimize this date when they will jump all over it as "proof" of their organization's divinity.. without dates such as 1914 societies like the watchtower simply would not exist.

  the watchtower needed these dates to anticipate and use as selling points.. remember, before 1914 there were not very many witnesses.

  Jehovah's Witness Faith Founded Upon?

  dear all,.

  i am currently researching information on the first bible students (charlie t. russell included) for a new jwb article that i am working on.. i have been told that good old charlie took a lot from the seventh day adventist faith.. is this true, or should i say, is this fact?

  if so, are their any publications or websites that can back this up?.

  As previously mentioned by Yknot, there is a difference between the SECOND ADVENTISTS and the SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.

  JWs trace back to the SECOND ADVENTISTS, and so do the SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS, but JWs took nothing from the SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.

  If they had, they would be a bit more successful today.

  just yesterday, nasa announced that the chandra x-ray telescope has located a black hole that is nearby (a mere 50 million light years).. the great thing about this is that the black hole was observed being "born" just 35 years ago.

  this provides astrophysicists with a young black hole of a known age to observe, which will lead to a better understanding of our mechanical universe.. *note for theologians: don't ask how the black hole can be 50 million light years away and only 35 year old.

  the answer is that the light from the black hole takes 50 million years to reach earth.

  *NOTE for theologians: Don't ask how the black hole can be 50 million light years away and only 35 year old. The answer is that the light from the black hole takes 50 million years to reach earth. So in absolute tems, the black hole is 50 million years old. But it appeared in the sky only 35 years ago. In effect there's a 50 million year transmission delay, similar to if someone sends you a photograph of your neice that was taken when she was an infant - even though she's in college now, that is how she looked back then.
